easiest way to make apple crisp on the road

Apple Crisp is an old family favorite. Making apple crisp in a nice big kitchen is easy with a regular oven, but how do you make it without a regular oven?

What do you do when you want to make a nice cozy apple crisp when you are out on the road in an RV or van?

There are other ways to cook at a campsite besides having an oven.

Both Paul and I are from the East Coast. We remember plenty of cold nights and a big bowl of hot apple crisp and ice cream.

Today we usually don’t eat regular dairy ice cream, but we really love the non-dairy ice cream options that are out there.

Paul’s favorite happens to be the So Delicious line. You can find it at most grocery stores nowadays.

All Apples Are Not The Same

Choosing the apple to use for apple crisp is really a personal preference. Some people like a tart apple, and some like a more sweet variety.

We like the Fuji variety but have also made the crisp with northern California Gravenstein apples.

There are 7500 different varieties to choose from, but most are not available in your local grocery stores.  Just find the one that gives you the taste you are looking for.

The smaller you cut up the apples, the quicker the apple crisp cooks.

Is There Really A Difference?

When you think of baking in a conventional oven, remember that cooking without a traditional oven isn’t very different.

The only thing you need to think about is how long it takes to cook something. Unfortunately, it’s hard to determine cooking times in some of the baking devices.

Whenever I read a recipe, I always know that I can adjust my cooking time to be able to cook it in a non-conventional oven.

Different easy ways to bake an apple crisp without a regular oven

The food tastes the same when cooking with a solar oven or stovetop oven over an open fire.

There are other ways to bake Apple Crisp without a regular oven.

We have had many different types of RVs with all different kitchens.

The larger RVs usually have a convection microwave oven, but the smaller ones probably do not have that or even a regular microwave. So what can you do?

GoSun Solar Oven for baking without a regular oven

The GoSun Solar Oven has always been my go-to for baking without a conventional oven.

I have a small solar oven and just recently got a larger one that can cook two to three different things at once.  I’m totally stoked!

As long as the sun is up, I can cook with the sun.  It will cook in the shade but just not as fast.

Remember, you’re only rays of the sun away from a good hot meal.

So, one of the easiest ways to make apples crisp on the road without a regular oven is the most off-grid option of them all.

Omnia Stovetop Oven is another no regular oven option

Another way to bake an apple crisp without a regular oven on the road is to use an Omnia Stovetop Oven.  This is a really unique idea for baking.

The Omnia is used on a stovetop of any kind except an induction stovetop.

The heat enters the oven from the center, and the heat circles around the bundt pan, and whala! you have a baked Apple Crisp.

It cooks at 350º for the same amount of time it would take to bake in a regular oven.

Apple Crisp is a family favorite for many people, so it’s always fun to figure out new ways of making it. Enjoy it with some nice cream.
